Every now and then you read something that grabs your attention that really makes you stop and think. That happened to me when I was reading one of Jodi Picoult’s novels recently. One of the characters in the book said, and I’m paraphrasing because I can’t remember the exact quote, ‘There is no such thing as truth, there is just our individual interpretation of truth’.
Stop for a minute and think about what that statement means to you. We all perceive the world through our individual filters and what is often presented to us as truth, for instance our nightly news bulletins, is only another person’s opinion of what happened. And if we look at a bigger picture how many wars have started because each side believed that what they were fighting for was truth? Continue reading
This video is worth watching and is a really good example why we should never judge a person by their appearance.
Life has been a little challenging lately. I have severe arthritis that’s damaged a number of my joints to the point that 3 joints need replacing and I live with chronic pain. Now I have two choices. I can give in and be defeated by pain and allow it to determine who I am and how I live my life. Or, I can be cheerful, do the best I can and expect a miracle. Do you know the story of King Midas? When asked what he wanted more than anything in the world he said ‘Pray grant that all I touch be turned to gold’. His wish was granted. He touched a tree, it turned to gold. He picked up a pebble, it turned to gold. He ordered his servants to prepare a feast but when he touched the bread it turned to gold, and the wine turned to gold at his lips. When he reached for his daughter, she too turned to gold. He cursed himself for being so stupid.
The results of the recent survey I conducted told me that most people believe that money is the one thing that prevents them from living a meaningful life. But is it really? Continue reading
